5.5 Things You Didn’t Know About Nicky P
Nicky P made his way to TJWS this week. He and I swapped emails and here’s the result.

Tell us about the first time you heard yourself on radio
I went on a road trip with my brother and two other friends first to Nashville and then to New Orleans. It was our first night in New Orleans and someone from Beyond the Dawn radio reach out to me telling me I was going to be on their show. It was a really cool moment because when you are an unsigned musician doing all the work, reaching out to people, hearing nothing in return, and then one day, someone gets back to you it really makes it worth it. So yeah, there I was at dinner, in New Orleans, and this email came through saying your music will be played tonight. Made me feel like…maybe I do have it. A big boost confidence wise. Cool part about that radio station was not just the kind words they said about my music, but the fact they played back to back songs of mine because they dig it that much. So, I was in New Orleans with some awesome people, on vacation, and my music was played on a radio station. Definitely a vacation I won’t forget.
What non-instrumental sound or sounds do you love?
I love acapella. Back in college a couple of my friends and I use to go into the lobby of dormitories and perform songs like “What I’ve Got” by Sublime acapella style. When all the harmonies work together it creates such a sweet sound.
What is something you still want to learn in life?
Italian. I have always wanted to learn the language. I have an app on my phone to help me out, but when no one around you speaks the language it’s a little difficult to retain it. Maybe one day, but for now I shall stare at my phone screen and learn as much as I can.
What 3 items would you want to have with you if you were stranded on a desert island?
Logically speaking, a machete, a tarp, and someone else who knows survival skills. I would not consider myself a MacGyver in the slightest. Trying to survive as long as I can till help comes, right?! Also, I couldn’t be alone. I’d probably annoy myself.
What’s your favorite kind of sandwich and what would you wash it down with?
I am from Philly so I love cheese steaks, but my favorite sandwich is a buffalo chicken cheese steak. I don’t really drink soda and I can’t drinkbeer when I eat. So I’m going to be a plain Jane and just say water.
What one song never ever leaves your music player’s playlist?
That’s a hard question because I have legit one play list for years and I just add to it. I have never taken a song off. One song for a while that I always love hearing though is “Bullet and a Target” by Citizen Cope. Always love the vibe of that song.
