Free Music Feature
Welcome to the Justin Wayne Show’s Free Music Feature blog, written by our own Claire Rozario! She features one new free track each week on the blog that’s hot, sweet and ready for your ears.
If you are currently offering a free song and would like Claire to consider it for her blog, contact her via email: claire (at) thejustinwayneshow (dot) com. Please include:
- A short description of your track and you (band, artist, or dog-and-pony show)
- A link to the site where it’s streamable, embeddable and downloadable – Bandcamp or Soundcloud are good options.
- Reason WHY she should include it.
If you’re a reader – that’s ACE and welcome. Let me know if you find anything that should be on this blog too!
The Banner Days Sampler by The Banner Days – Free Music Feature MP3
“The Banner Days Sampler” by The Banner Days is a very special free music this week! Firstly, because it’s all kinds of beautiful and secondly, because the duo are actually letting you walk away with not one, but three of their tracks.
Beth Whitney and Bradford Loomis are the pair that when put together, make The Banner Days, and we love them here at The Justin Wayne Show. The combination of Beth’s delicate, pure, and melodious voice and Bradford’s soulful, growling tone makes for a beautifully heart wrenching, harmonious blend. If you are a avid listener you’ll notice that with this download you even get their track ‘My Beloved’ which was featured in our Top 10 of October 2014.
The Banner Days is an old saying that means a time to remember and celebrate. “When we started writing together, we immediately clicked. As these songs have taken shape one thing has become clear: This project, this catalog of songs and this experience are going to be something special.”
I strongly encourage you to leave a tip for their kindness.
“You” (acoustic version) by The Floodgates – Free Music Feature MP3
The Floodgates have recorded an acoustic version of their beautiful track ‘You’ and they are offering it in return for an email address. Once you listen you’ll know this is one trade off you want to get on board with. We played this release on last weeks live show, but as it’s still available for free I had to post about it. This submission is the first I’ve heard of the band, from this alone I’m incredibly excited to see what else they put out there.
The Floodgates are a young and fresh three-piece acoustic rock band, comprising Martin Stenning, Tim Fullbrook, and Alex Wane, and celebrating Mumford & Sons, Bruce Springsteen, Jeff Buckley and Tom Odell as their influences. The group all hail from Tunbridge Wells and released their debut single ‘You’ on 13 October following their debut EP ‘God Knows’ release earlier this year, and premiered on Backseat Mafia.
Sicky Song by Alex Blood & The Diggers: Free Music Feature MP3
“Sicky Song” by Alex Blood & The Diggers couldn’t be a more perfect track for your free music feature this week! Reason 1. because it’s friday, reason 2. because I have actually been ill all week and wish I had to guts to make this phone call! Alex Blood & The Diggers are Discovery alumni and we had the pleasure of meeting back along! Now, they have just played the most recent Discovery at the Islington, so if you like this then stay tuned for interviews and live sets coming soon.
Alex Blood & The Diggers are a genre mashing band with a plot under their belt, and not just one for growing veg in. Their unique blend of punk, rock, rap and reggae, has forged a sound described as “impossible to pigeonhole”. Lyrical wit reminiscent of the classic punk poets comes mixed with an edge and urgency in the music that commands attention. Alex Blood is a lyricist, producer and performer. He has toured alongside Jay Z, featured on tracks with Amy Winehouse and had airplay on BBC Radio 1, 1xtra, 6Music and MTV. Alex Blood & The Diggers released their debut album this year.
Synthesising by Elle Exxe: Free Music Feature MP3
We already gave you a tease of this track on our live show this week (because we just couldn’t wait) but I’m incredibly excited for this weeks free music feature: “Synthesising” by Elle Exxe. Under different name and different management the former Linda Harrison graced our airwaves regularly here at The Justin Wayne Show, so we’ve been biting at the bit to play you her new kickass track alongside her new kickass name.
Elle Exxe can claim many outstanding achievements that has directed her to start this new journey. 1 million YouTube hits, a fashion line and not to mention collaborations connections and praise from the likes of Frankmusik to Perez Hilton. But this seemingly glitzy start is the result of fierce independence and self-belief. Her upbeat pop songs are rooted in emotional hardship and solid experience gained from Edinburgh to LAs slums. Vulnerable but with a steely stubbornness, she is a pop star who has paid her dues and more.
I Want to Be by Lonna Marie: Free Music Feature MP3
“I Want to Be” by Lonna Marie (yes, I didn’t interrupt that because it rhymed) is this weeks free feature for you. We were lucky enough to hear about this lady when she submitted her music to us a few weeks back, I was a fan from the get-go but now I’ve taken sometime to look through Lonna’s music I can see how privileged we were to have her. It was hard for me to pick a favourite, but this is one I’d put on repeat. I’d advise you to do the same.
Lonna Marie is a passionate singer songwriter who calls Los Angeles her home. She is originally from Hollywood, Florida, spent her early 20s hustling and thriving in New York city and now has landed on the West Coast, much to her surprise. She began her singer songwriting career in New York city where she established herself as an underground artist and took that a step further and created an organization called Underground Artists Live; a safe haven where artists could perform in a supportive and welcoming environment located in the heart of the LES. Before leaving NYC in 2012, she recorded a 7 song EP entitled “Oh no” which includes 7 original songs. Under the direction of Sean Gill (The Passengerz, Nightlife Recording Studios) she was able to explore her sound and take her music to the next level. She said goodbye to New York City with her final performance at The Studio at Webster Hall.
Lonna Marie is currently working on expanding her sound and is collaborating with some of the best producers around. She recently finished her single “Tonight” working with Will Golden (Gomez, Michelle Branch) which will be released early 2014. She also had the opportunity to work with NYC based producer Roger Greenawalt (The Pierces, Ben Kweller) on two singles “Better Day” (available on iTunes) and “Goodbye”, which will also be released early 2014.
“I don’t win awards, but I’ll win you over” is what she writes of herself on Twitter – this will change so soon. Download this now before it’s too late!
Sleeves by Madi Anne Davis – Free Music Feature MP3
“Sleeves” by Madi Anne Davis is our beautiful free music feature! At The Justin Wayne Show we’ve only recently discovered this voice via a old fashion music submission two weeks back. Now she has been kind enough to offer up another one of her songs to us all to enjoy!
Madi Anne Davis is a gifted, 15 year old singer songwriter from McKinney Texas, Madi Davis, has performed at House of Blues, Sambuca, Zin Zen, Allen City Blues Festival, Frisco Rough Riders Stadium, Allen Event Center and internationally in Paris, France.
Madi’s first self titled EP was released, August 10th, 2014. A follow-up to her full length single, Child’s Heart. Dedicated to her grandfather and released May 2013. It played on 106.1 KISS FM DFW – and is part of the My Minute Music Movement. The full length version is available on iTunes. Performances supporting the 2013 My Minute Movement were a success.
Pingu in the Igloo (Tom Rosenthal Cover) by Keston Cobblers Club – Free Music Feature MP3
“Pingu in the Igloo” (Tom Rosenthal Cover) by the Keston Cobblers Club is your to own today!
This week’s free music feature can be see as a double whammy in some respects as it is one of The Justin Wayne Show’s much loved bands covering one of The Justin Wayne Show’s much loved artists! I know, it’s like all your Christmas and birthday coming all at once and I have no doubt that you’ll enjoy the outcome of such a combination.
Keston Cobblers’ Club formed in 2009 with sibling duo Matthew and Julia Lowe, joining their old Keston school friends to make foot-stamping mod-folk music.
The band is based on the folklore of the old, penniless cobbler of Keston. His business was struggling and he would cheer himself up by throwing barn dances for the villagers. The rip-roaring dancing would wear out the soles ofthe villagers’ shoes, and so the cobbler was never short of work again! (See “Story” for the whole shebang!) Keston Cobblers’ Club have established a great reputation for their professional, yet completely DIY approach to making a record. From the recording process, artwork, films and promotion, they have done everything themselves. Cobblers is all about collaboration, and many talented musicians also play frequently with the band.
Tom Rosenthal is a “person who writes songs” in his own words, in reality he is doing a hell of a lot more . Go check him out (you’ll thank me later).
California by Snowapple – Free Music Feature MP3
“California” by Snowapple is this weeks delightful free music feature for you to take home with you today! Three girls from Amsterdam make up this interesting band, who combine harmonies with a variety of quirky musical instruments to create their unique sound. More often than not our free music feature is sourced from acts that I’ve had the fortune of meeting at Discovery 2 and this week I’m sticking to tradition! So if you like this go check out their live set and interview now.
SNOWAPPLE have done a lot of living, more so than many musicians twice their age. Dig beneath the surface of this earthy, almost unassuming, folk/chanson trio, and you’ll find a tangle of rich and varied life experiences. Together the three young Dutch women are SNOWAPPLE, a group that ambitiously draws upon markedly different musical genres to create a uniquely eclectic yet wholly natural sound. Their eponymous debut album (released in 2013) is beautiful and beguiling in equal measure, full of catchy pop-folk numbers punctuated by excursions into the darker and more romantic side of the human condition. Their new album, Illusions, shows a marked growth and experimentation in the band’s repertoire, and has a richer, more developed sound. For this album they worked with a wide range of producers and musicians, including xxx. The band is on a continual whistle-stop tour of continental Europe, UK and USA. Debt Records is delighted and proud to have become Snowapple’s UK homebase. Louis Barabbas, Debt Records.
Bounce by Lola King & the Kickstarts – Free Music Feature MP3
We’ve seen this generous band before in our free music feature, but they kick ass so whatever they are offering we are greedily grabbing up! “Bounce” by Lola King & the Kickstarts is your track of the week and I have no doubt it’ll have you bouncing along in no time. This band are Discovery 2 alumni meaning that we also have an interview with the band along with a live set (if this freebie wasn’t enough you) waiting just over here.
Lola King & the Kickstarts are an exciting new band built around the songwriting partnership of Lola King and her brother Dan. Having toured the UK fronting indie-popsters Kyoshi (playing with the likes of Kingpin, Bloc Party and the Mentalists), Lola King had a vision for a modern take on the classic 4 piece band. She got her brother Dan on board, in-house producer at Kickstart Studios (producer of tracks for Jeanette Akua, Kurtis, Universal Records) and they set about recruiting the hottest rhythm section in London; BBC Philharmonic bassist, Chris Curtis, and young upstart ACM graduate, Shaun Lee on drums and percussion. Together they are Lola King & the Kickstarts.
Mood For Love by Elektric – Free Music Feature MP3
If you’ve been listening you’ll of heard how much I love this girl, so you can imagine how happy I was when I discovered that her Soundcloud page is overflowing with free features! Out of the masses I’ve picked “Mood For Love” by Elektric as your Friday feature. This is off her ‘Not Another Love Song’ EP that she was kind enough to give us, another track from which is currently featured in our Top 10 of September. See, I told you I loved her.
A unique sound in a scene full of MCs or singer Elektric’s music is refreshing and original and represents and champions the underground vibe of the Midland’s cool kid scene. Taking influences from all genres of music from reggae, soul and hip hop, to pop rock, indie and most importantly her life, Elektric uses her Music to express what it’s like to be a young, gay, female artist in 21st century Britain.
