Free Music Feature
Welcome to the Justin Wayne Show’s Free Music Feature blog, written by our own Claire Rozario! She features one new free track each week on the blog that’s hot, sweet and ready for your ears.
If you are currently offering a free song and would like Claire to consider it for her blog, contact her via email: claire (at) thejustinwayneshow (dot) com. Please include:
- A short description of your track and you (band, artist, or dog-and-pony show)
- A link to the site where it’s streamable, embeddable and downloadable – Bandcamp or Soundcloud are good options.
- Reason WHY she should include it.
If you’re a reader – that’s ACE and welcome. Let me know if you find anything that should be on this blog too!
Junior Code Course by Victory Kicks – Free Music Feature MP3
A former music submission is now yours for the taking! ‘Junior Code’ by Victory Kicks has an interesting sound and stood out amongst the submission for being all indie, unique and surprisingly new! The band only formed in 2013, but since then they have had a string of releases leading up to the release of their debut LP.
Junior Code Course is the first single taken from the new Victory Kicks LP The Decibel Age. If you were to purchase it off their Bandcamp page it would come with a brand new previously unreleased song called Exterior Avenue Day which was written and recorded during the sessions for the LP. Both songs are about work and how it can get to you.
The Decibel Age was released 31 March 2014 so it’s available right now!
Victory Kicks are an alternative rock band based in London. The band releases collections of melodic Lo-Fi indie on the Unmanned Aerial Vinyl label.
Same Without You by Jingo- Free Music Feature MP3
One of the contenders for our Top 10 of March are kindly giving away a few free tracks over on their Soundcloud page – including the song I entered them in with! For today I have chosen another banger; ‘Same With You’ by the wonderful Jingo as this weeks free music feature. I bloody love this band and I hope you will too. Grab this single now and then keep your eyes peeled for their debut album set to be released this summer!
Jingo is a dynamic and curious four-piece affair. They are, consequently, Jack Buckett, his U.S. wife, Katie, Joseph Reeves and latest addition, Sahil Batra, discovered from their own warehouse Open Mic Night. The four have been making music with other bands in Brooklyn, New York and London for a fair few years but have now embarked upon a shared venture and have a loyal and devout group of co-patriots in the UK and US. Supporting Graham Coxon of Blur as their first gig in March 2013, they were out of the blocks and running.Jingo is a unique genetic composite, and one that has not been seen too often on the music scene.
Who Are You by JazzMine Garfield – Free Music Feature MP3
“Who Are You” by JazzMine Garfield is yours for the taking this week! We played a great track from this talented girl on last weeks live show which made me want dive into her collection head first. Whilst doing just that in my own time I found that she had this little number going to free. Be sure to listen to ‘Great Wall’ whilst you are lingering over this lady, it’s so fricking good.
Keep your packaging because the 24 from Birmingham, AL truly belongs outside of the crowded box. The guitarist/singer/songwriter, has proven that creating in the realm of folk, soul, alternative, hip hop and blues she truly sets a part from many. “To be great means breaking barriers, not being afraid to be you, and most importantly stepping out and influencing others.” JazzMine is a voice of her own, and with her electric personality she is taking the world by storm.
Independence (A Lack Of) by Massmatiks – Free Music Feature MP3
This weeks feature is a right treat for you all, as instead of featuring only 1 track, it features 2 alongside a couple of interesting remixes! Massmatiks are letting you have their first release ‘Independence (A Lack Of)’ completely for FREE! I met these lovely boys a few years back at The Great Escape Festival where I saw them play there hearts out, so it’s great to see them on the rise with this cracking first single.
MassMatiks are an Indie/Alternative Rock band from Surrey UK consisting of George Peploe (Vocals/Guitar), Joe Turner (Guitar), Martin Linch (Bass) and Josh Stagg (Drums). The band themselves are a loud and infectious collective which is reflected both in their songs and live performances. Their music consists of catchy guitar hooks alongside a tight rhythm section, relatable lyrics and catchy melodies.
Since supporting The 1975 in January 2013, MassMatiks have gone on to working towards their first release, ‘Independence (A Lack Of)’. The band have worked hard to develop the sound where it is today. With this, the band have used 2013 as an opportunity to feel comfortable with their sound and begin pushing their material.
Swoon by Emily Wolfe – Free Music Feature MP3
“Swoon” by Emily Wolfe is this weeks free music feature and it’s such a good song! Justin sent this over to me describing her as “tip, top excellent, super awesome artist” and he’s bang on the money. I’ve been listening to Emily on repeat all day now, so I had to share it with you. Download this track for free right now, then I strongly advise you to just buy everything else she’s ever done.
Emily Wolfe transcends the ranks of ordinary musicians. With a versatility all her own, Wolfe’s ability to transform from rock and roll fireball into intimate acoustic songwriter is showcased in her double-installment sophomore release. Released in May of 2013, Mechanical Hands is the 6-track full band predecessor to the more delicate, minimalistic Night & Day released in December.
Everything is Haunted by Laura Marie – Free Music Feature MP3
This weeks free music feature is actually the most important one we’ve featured. Laura Marie has released her track ‘Everything is Haunted’ in order to bring more attention to an unfortunate and under publicised problem. She is speaking out against sexual assault and encouraging you to do the same. We are putting this as our free feature here at The Justin Wayne Show, however we urge you in every way possible to donate money for this important cause.
Laura Marie writes: “1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men have experienced some form of sexual violence in their lives. Someone you know is a survivor and still needs your help and support. I’m asking you to join me in supporting NoMore and their partner organization Joyful Heart Foundation. Please, take a moment to listen to this song. You may download it for free along but please, consider leaving a tip and sharing it with your friends. 100% of all tips will go to Joyful Heart Foundation. And, please, visit NoMore.org and join their social media thunderclap scheduled for the week of March 17th.“
In order to read more about her courageous story and why she has now decided to speak out, head over to her website. Thank you Laura Marie.
Leaving Here by Scott Barkan – Free Music Feature MP3
‘Leaving Here’ by Scott Barkan is this weeks free feature, so grab it whilst you can as it’s a beauty on the ears. This track really stood out to me whilst I was searching through Soundclouds ever endless array of music. Scotts voice is lovely the way this track builds makes you feel it necessary to sing along. Well, I hope it does as I’ve been doing just that for days now. Enjoy!
Scott Barkan is a guitarist, singer and songwriter based in New York’s Hudson Valley. After years of working as an in demand sideman for various songwriters and bands around the country, having his guitar playing and songwriting featured on national television as well as leading numerous guitar oriented instrumental projects, Scott has recently struck out as an acoustic based solo artist.
The new project, which finds Scott’s signature shimmering guitar tones and skronky, avant/country improvisations serving as the backdrop for his witty, self-effacing and often heartbreaking lyric writing, is without-a-doubt Barkan’s most personal project to date.
The Great Divide by Lola King & the Kickstarts – Free Music Feature MP3
This weeks feature ‘The Great Divide’ is brought to us by Lola King & the Kickstarts! I was lucky enough to meet this lot at a past Discovery 2 night where I discovered that I not only loved their music, I loved their sense of humour! Needless to say, I’m delighted to see they are giving away a taste of their talent for free. Download this now in advance of their coming album, and check out our podcast from that beautiful night.
Lola King & the Kickstarts are an exciting band built around the songwriting partnership of Lola King and her brother Dan. Lola King had a vision for a modern take on the classic 4 piece band. She got her brother Dan on board, in-house producer at Kickstart Studios (producer of tracks for Jeanette Akua, Kurtis, Universal Records) and they set about recruiting the hottest rhythm section in London; BBC Philharmonic bassist, Chris Curtis, and young upstart ACM graduate, Shaun Lee on drums and percussion. Together they are Lola King & the Kickstarts.
Debut album ‘The Handmade Tale of Lola King and The Kickstarts’ out February 24th 2014!
All About Falling in Love by The MonaLisa Twins – Free Music Feature MP3
Happy Valentines Day Everyone! This weeks free feature obviously had to be something to do with love, but I’ve chosen a quirky track to mark this day. ‘All About Falling in Love’ by The MonaLisa Twins is an interesting song that I found hiding in our archives.
The MonaLisa Twins comment: “We can be on our own for some time but we can’t live without love for too long. Technical progress and modern times’ possibilities helped to make our lives more convenient and ourselves more independent from others. But what is the difference that makes us really happy? While this song doesn’t give an exact answer it might let you feel better after listening to it.”
The core of the band are two 19 year old girls, actual twins named Mona and Lisa. Originally from Austria, they travelled extensively, performing in the USA, Australia and UK in their teens. They started out with cover songs on YouTube and released two CDs with covers in 2007 and 2008. At 16 they decided to go for a professional music career and began to record their debut album, released in 2012. Mona and Lisa are dedicated to work on releasing more music videos and writing new songs.
Album “When We’re Together” available now!
Giraffe Junkie by Keston Cobblers’ Club – Free Music Feature MP3
We love Keston Cobblers’ Club and I love that this quirky track ‘Giraffe Junkie’ is currently available for free! It’s catchy but lovely lyrics will creep into your mind and stay locked there until you press play again, I know this as I’m already on my third listen. Do enjoy and do grab their debut album “One, For Words” out now.
The band is based on the folklore of the old, penniless cobbler of Keston. His business was struggling and he would cheer himself up by throwing barn dances for the villagers. The rip-roaring dancing would wear out the soles ofthe villagers’ shoes, and so the cobbler was never short of work again!
Keston Cobblers’ Club have brought back the old Cobbler’s club and everything it stands for: the music making, the collaboration and event eh raucous barn dances!
Keston Cobblers’ Club have established a great reputation for their professional, yet completely DIY approach to making a record. From the recording process, artwork, films and promotion, they have done everything themselves.
