5.5 Questions with Lane Mueller of Candy Cigarettes

One man band and multi instrumentalist Lane Mueller of Candy Cigarettes has accomplished quite a bit for a 21 year old. His evocative songs touch on a range of influences (look below) and he’s “carved a name for himself amongst the elders of Portland’s highly proclaimed music scene”.

Lane does 5.5 questions with The JWS starting now:

Tell us about the first time you heard yourself on radio.

I got a lot of texts from friends when eating at a pizza parlor that was playing Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Sweet Home Alabama, so I missed my radio debut. Anyway, I hope those guys make it big one day.

As a performer, what’s been your coolest day ever?

Playing The Kaleidoscope music festival the same day as Nas. So yes, I’ve technically opened for one of the greatest rappers ever.

Who’s your musical role model and why?

Beck, because he made Odelay and Sea Change. They’re two drastically different, but equally amazing albums. Also, Elliott Smith, because Beck’s never written a song as good as him.

Describe the worst dressing room or venue bathroom you’ve experienced.

My friend flipping out on some caterers for not having pulled pork tacos. He had a point.

What’s on the ideal sandwich and what would you wash it down with?
