Can you hear "Static Waves"?

Yup, Grey’s Anatomy is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. But, how did I feel when Andrew Belle’s “Static Waves” was to appear on the show, just when Mark tells Callie to talk to Arizona about her feelings? (Yes, I know that sounds REALLY contrived.) I was pretty darn stoked for our man Andrew, and thereby gave him Track of the Week for his achievement.

The Scudley Sessions roll on this week again with Peter Renzullo bringing in a fabulous singer/songwriter Helen Shanahan. More details are on the Scudley Sessions page with links back to Pete’s lovely indie record label, Scudley Records.

We’ve also got to remind to you to vote for the Recharged Radio Awards that are rapidly approaching, especially since the voting ends on March 31! Get down there and vote.

And my other project, Insomnia Radio Chicago, has finally launched! If you dig the Chicagoland area’s fine array of music, join Kimmi Rudolph and myself over there for another bi-monthly music podcast with some great music!

One more quick note: I’ve been getting promises from bands and artists to send me jingles, but NO JINGLES HAVE YET TO ARRIVE. This makes me do this . So, follow the good form of the band Giant Wow and send me some bloody jingles before I have to start naming names and throwing dead cats. (Monty Python fans…?) Heck, if you haven’t promised me one and you’d like to make me do this than send one along yourself! You don’t even have to be an artist, you could be a tried-and-true fan, or a new fan… or my mom. Send em, the easiest way is our submission page.

<itunes:summary>Yup, Grey's Anatomy is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. But, how did I feel when Andrew Belle's "Static Waves" (http://andrewbelle.com) was to appear on the show, just when Mark tells Callie to talk to Arizona about her feelings? (Yes, I know that sounds REALLY contrived.) I was pretty darn stoked for our man Andrew, and thereby gave him Track of the Week for his achievement.

The Scudley Sessions roll on this week again with Peter Renzullo bringing in a fabulous singer/songwriter Helen Shanahan (http://helenshanahan.com). More details are on the Scudley Sessions page (http://thejustinwayneshow.com/category/scudley-sessions/) with links back to Pete's lovely indie record label, Scudley Records (http://scudleyrecords.com).

We've also got to remind to you to vote for the Recharged Radio Awards (http://rechargedradio.com/text/voting.html) that are rapidly approaching, especially since the voting ends on March 31! Get down there and vote.

And my other project, Insomnia Radio Chicago (http://chicago.insomniaradio.net), has finally launched! If you dig the Chicagoland area's fine array of music, join Kimmi Rudolph (http://themetaldeli.com) and myself over there for another bi-monthly music podcast with some great music!

One more quick note: I've been getting promises from bands and artists to send me jingles, but NO JINGLES HAVE YET TO ARRIVE. This makes me do this :-(. So, follow the good form of the band Giant Wow (http://giantwow.com) and send me some bloody jingles before I have to start naming names and throwing dead cats. (Monty Python fans...?) Heck, if you haven't promised me one and you'd like to make me do this :) than send one along yourself! You don't even have to be an artist, you could be a tried-and-true fan, or a new fan... or my mom. Send em, the easiest way is our submission page (/submit-music).

Thanks goes out to all of you listeners and visitors as it’s Thanksgiving! Yaaayy! (Yes, I did succeed in eating so much I was sick – though I wasn’t proper “sick” as the British might think, although two others at our gathering were…)

Also, yet another reminder to vote for us in the European Podcast Awards! You can vote once per day and time is running out (so I won’t be badgering you much longer!)

We’ve got a new Field track as the full disc has graced the top of my desk, all the way from Sacramento, California. I also thank just about everyone who’s helped (as it’s in the spirit of the Thanksgiving season) and discuss my grandma’s famous cinnamon rolls that I’m brewing up for my mates at work. Anyone interested in the recipe? If you ask really nice, maybe I’ll post it next week.

Give us a call on our new voice mail and leave some holiday cheer (that we’ll play on the show!) It’s a US number, or +1 for you outside of the US (and always posted in the sidebar at http://thejustinwayneshow.com) so dial 646-462-4073 with extension 15797. You can also record audio cheer and send it to us via email!

There’s also loads of other great music packed into the show as we’re reminding ourselves of why we began – the music. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the politics of associations and groups, the technical side of things, and everything else that gets in the way but it’s good to remember that we’re here for THE MUSIC and that’s what this show is about.

Speaking of…

We've got a new Field (http://myspace.com/thefieldband)track as the full disc has graced the top of my desk, all the way from Sacramento, California. I also thank just about everyone who's helped (as it's in the spirit of the Thanksgiving season) and discuss my grandma's famous cinnamon rolls that I'm brewing up for my mates at work. Anyone interested in the recipe? If you ask really nice, maybe I'll post it next week.

Give us a call on our new voice mail and leave some holiday cheer (that we'll play on the show!) It's a US number, or +1 for you outside of the US (and always posted in the sidebar at http://thejustinwayneshow.com) so dial 646-462-4073 with extension 15797. You can also record audio cheer and send it to us via email (mailto:thejustinwayneshow@gmail.com)!

There's also loads of other great music packed into the show as we're reminding ourselves of why we began - the music. It's easy to get wrapped up in the politics of associations and groups, the technical side of things, and everything else that gets in the way but it's good to remember that we're here for THE MUSIC and that's what this show is about.

Uncommon Ground is a small, intimate bar and restaurant in Chicago with quirky, friendly staff and plenty of good food and drink. It’s locally owned and is just a great atmosphere. I highly recommend finding one of the two locations if you’re ever in Chicago and trying any variation of the local Chicago beer known as 312. The tap looks like a telephone receiver. How could you not want to drink it?

ANYdangway… on to the show!

I was greeted by Lauretta, the lead singer/songwriter and Julie, the manager of The Powwows. It was almost like meeting up with old friends even though I’d never met them before. We were all laughing and talking all throughout dinner (which was uh. mazing. I had Pumpkin Ravioli with sage butter. I think I cried a little on the inside with joy) and the once we moved upstairs for the show, the entire place was equally charged with a lively, friendly energy in the entire room.

There were probably about 40-50 people in attendance and Lauretta and the band seemed to know and be friends with them all. Thanks to a pretty terrible joke by Steve the sound guy (and by terrible I mean awesome) as he introduced the band, it prompted Lauretta to start a bad joke contest, inviting audience members up to tell their own bad jokes, including pure comic gold like this one:

A string walks in to a bar. The bartender says, “Hey! We don’t serve your kind here.” Dejected, the string goes outside, twists himself around and messes up his hair. He goes back in and the bartender says, “Aren’t you that piece of string that was just in here?” The string says, “Nope, I’m a frayed knot.”

The Powwows

The other members of the band are Tony, the lead guitar, Kyle on drums and Doug on bass. The entire band was very in sync with unique rhythms and beats driving each song. The balance was great AND…. are you ready for this?…. I could actually hear and understand the lyrics. I know. Amazing. Especially in a small venue.

The only thing I can really remember wanting to hear more of was the backup vocals by Tony. The harmonizing of male and female voices together, particularly with female lead singers, is something I always dig. Their sound reminded me of a band I love called Ida. Calming, soothing. Seemingly innocent, yet with some fire underneath.

All in all definitely a great live show. I even brought a couple of friends who had never heard of The Powwows before and they both really enjoyed themselves. If you’re in Chicago definitely keep an eye out for their next concert and, if you like what you hear on the JWShow, pick up the album. All the songs will keep your head boppin’ and your toes tappin’.

Speaking of coming back… come and participate on the live show! I’ve put nifty “figure-out-the-showtime-in-my-timezone” link on the website, or if you’re time zone savvy just come to The Justin Wayne Show dot com or Recharged Radio dot com at 8pm GMT. (It’s 3pm Eastern, 2pm Central, 1pm Mountain, 12pm Pacific for you Americans). If you’re a band, it’s a GREAT way to get your stuff played as you can talk to me via the chatroom and I’d be a fool not to play your stuff if your chatting in the chatroom. It’d seem pretty rude, wouldn’t it? So, by that it’s also a great way to chat with the artists that get played on the show. Kind of like a forum? (Don’t tell Jordan I said that.)

That’s about it this week. Here’s what you came for…
