Amazing, absolutely amazing. We have hit 150 episodes (not counting the last four Awdio specials) and we didn’t even mention it on the show. It’s because we were so excited, or just getting on with the purpose of which has brought us this far in the first place – independent music. This special show features brand new stuff from Van Susans, Calvin Roche, Roaming Hills of Buffalo, and a smattering of my favourite tracks from the last six months of Discovery 2 previews.

Claire Rozario, our new intern joined Mark and myself for the first time this week. Although she didn’t get her own microphone, we let her talk in the background – if you turn up the podcast you can probably hear her. She enjoyed herself so much she’s coming back soon and we promised to have a microphone for her then. We spoke briefly about producing audio and what my audio setup was and so I have taken a picture. Let me know if you have comments or questions! jw (at) thejustinwayneshow.com.

We also spoke to Mark about the upcoming Mostly release which he’s been mixing and he shares some invaluable advice to those at home trying to produce their own demos.

This week we were notified that The Justin Wayne Show has been nominated for a European Podcast Award which was EXCELLENT news! Care to donate thirty seconds (not money!) of your time for the cause? Head over and vote!

We have also got some more fresh sonic deliciousness from Black Bikini Alpha, The Powwows, and another new track from our boys at Junebug.

 <itunes:summary>Zalinski, one of my favourite London bands has broken up, so I thought I'd replay my interview with them from November when they released their most recent EP, Actions, Reactions, and Misunderstandings. I'm very sad they're gone, but listen to cuts from this great EP (as well as tons of other great tunes) on one of my favourite episodes.

Back next week! See you then... with bells on!

Episode 68: Actions, Reactions and Misunderstandings (http://thejustinwayneshow.com/2009/11/episode-68-actions-reactions-and-misunderstandings/)

//

(../wp-content/uploads/2009/11/zalinski-arm1.jpg)Kerpow! This new EP from Zalinski is crammed full of thick, jam-based, guitar rock that (if you fancy a good rock n’ roll tune) you’re gonna really enjoy. We’ve got the band on the show (in their car, actually) chatting to us about how they came together, the way they write, and where this new EP is taking them. What’s it called? Actions, Reactions, and Misunderstandings. We obviously liked it so much we named the episode after it.

This week we were notified that The Justin Wayne Show has been nominated for a European Podcast Award which was EXCELLENT news! Care to donate thirty seconds (not money!) of your time for the cause? Head over and vote!

Vote for The Justin Wayne Show at the European Podcast Awards Site (http://www.european-podcast-award.eu/uk/start/vote-and-win/personality/type/player/nc/1/uid/1115/podid/1115.html)

We have also got some more fresh sonic deliciousness from Black Bikini Alpha, The Powwows, and another new track from our boys at Junebug.

Album: All the Other Animals

Release Date: Summer 2009 (Out Now!)

All The Other Animals is the debut full-length album from alternative rockers Skeletons With Flesh On Them. From Seattle, Washington they appear to have all the cool and laid-back attitude of the new wave Bohemia, bands like The Dandy Warhols and The Thrills spring to mind with their non-nonchalance and cool rhythms.

Self releasing this album as well as the preceding EP, The Fish Don’t Mind, the band have taken those first steps to establishing themselves in the independent music world. If I was at all sentimental I’d launch into a mindless rhetoric about the purity of independent music and how record companies are ruining the world. But as it is, they are a necessary evil to combat those people that will always want something for nothing.

My favourite tracks on the album include: “Ten Times” and “Trail of Destruction” where the percussion adds that subtle bohemian feeling I was telling you about, while the added tambourine heightens that retro feeling the Skeletons have perfected. “Take Me Down” shows the bands darker side, the slide guitar is another glimpse of skeleton without the flesh that is more psycho rock than beatnik poetry. The rolling snare and trembling vocals are trademarks on this album that give a rusty, original quality. The nostalgic air throughout the album rings true not just to us older folk, but to anyone that has ever really lived. The album has an alternating theme of light and dark songs crossing over at some points and yet at other times they stand sharply opposed.

I would recommend SWFOT’s All the Other Animals it to anyone who has a taste for alternative rock albeit with a softer edge. While at times in opposition, the album works well together with distinctive vocals which are a strong point of the band’s; but that seems a little shallow so I’ll leave you with some sage wisdom… The songs you love are too often the songs that confess the secrets you’ve never told anyone. If you think a songs speaking to you, it’s not. It’s a universal truth that exists between us all, those quiet things that no one knows. So listen, and you’ll be surprised by what you might hear.
