Mar 26, 2015 by

This edition of the Discovery 2 live podcast features live performances and interviews from the gig night back in October 2014. You’ll hear blues infected indie pop from Emily Capell, rising Hull band La Bête Blooms with their snarling vocals, distorted guitars and plenty of feedback, Me & Deboe who blend indie and folk, and Rich Stephenson, who puts on a great acoustic show with his percussionist.

More about the artists

Emily Capell tells blues inflected, indiepop tales of life’s frustrations and elations. Whether she’s railing against the wrongs of the world, getting a little frisky or inventing a new dance craze,  Emily will pull you in and spin you round so quickly you’ll wonder why you ever bothered with dull generic boys with guitars. Her current  acoustic single Who Killed Smiley Culture / Plastic is available on Blang Records

“Probably the artist that Lily Allen wishes she was; alternative, witty, current and fresh.” – Sounds XP

Emily Capell performs with her band on this podcast – you’ll even hear a trombone!

Hull based 5 piece, La Bête Blooms release their debut EP this month produced by Matt Peel (Eagulls, Pulled Apart By Horses). The tracks snarling vocals, distorted guitars and plenty of feedback accompany a ray energy that the band are so well knows for at live shows. Having Supported Jaws, Pinks and Nightflowers at the beginning of the year, as well as playing Tramlines Festivals and Freedom Festival, the AAA is part of the October UK tour. They are receiving radio support from BBC Introducing & Amazing Radio.

“Managing to carve their own niche in an increasingly crowded revivalist movement…this young band occupy an all-too-rare position in recognising those touchstones, without ever actually ‘borrowing’ from them.” – Jonathan Cridford, One & Other

A simple combination of two voices and two guitars make up ME AND DEBOE : a cocktail of infectious rhythms, haunting melodies and clever lyrics is the potent result.  Their growing reputation has taken their unique sound to nearly 500 gigs, radio performances and festivals both on an international stage and across the UK. They released the self titled debut EP in 2013, with the single I For You Gave making BBC 6 Music Fresh On The Net: Fresh Faves selection. They are currently  touring Canada and America and then return to the AAA to perform tracks from their new EP.

Born and raised on the rural Yorkshire coast, Rich Stephenson is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. His diverse musical career has seen him pen tracks for E4 Skins, write songs for Bollywood and international ad campaigns as well as support Mercury Music Prize winners The XX.  He’s done film music collaborations with Lemon Jelly, live sessions on Amazing Radio and festival appearances at Boardmasters,Beverley Folk and Wold Top Acoustic. He will be promoting a cassette on International Cassette Store day and releasing his debut  EP ‘I am Rich’ digitally at the end of October.
