The One Takes Volume 1 is OUT

Nov 19, 2014 by

Tweet That’s right, our first EP full of exclusive recordings from a few of our favorite artists is now available. You can buy it and help support our growth into Maven.FM, the independent music internet radio station we’ve been dreaming and scheming about for the last two years. When you buy this album or one of the singles, you’re helping us directly fund Maven.FM. And you’re getting some excellent tunes which you can wow your friends with, as they won’t have them yet. You’re such a tastemaker, aren’t you? A big thanks to Laura Marie, Van Susans, Roaming Herds of Buffalo and Pepper and Shepherd for believing in our new radio station so much they donated these recordings exclusively for us to use. They’re pretty great. We also have to thank Beatnik Geek Records...

Tweet Yes, we should have got something about this on the site before the day of the festival, but better late than never. It’s the second year of the 2013 Walla Walla Guitar Festival and it’ll be our first year attending. I’m already blown away by the amount of top talent coming in for this Festival. We’re going to be speaking more to Rob Barrett, the Festival organizer, in the next few weeks but we’ll be virtually checking out all of the artists here for you, providing little blurbs about each of them and we’ll explain how the tickets work, too. Get your tickets over on the Walla Walla Guitar Festival website – it’s $55 for a full weekend pass which is a steal of a deal if you consider the 18 acts. There are also a...

Pandora – The Wrong Fight on the Performance Rights Playground...

Dec 3, 2012 by

Tweet Before you all go condemning Pandora for trying to lessen the amount of royalties they’re paying, have a quick read of this (and I’ll give you some other links for more research, too.) For artist performance rights like these Pandora is trying to lessen, regular FM and AM radio in the USA pays NOTHING.  NADA.  ZERO. Yes, there’s been a bill on the hill called S.379 The Performance Rights Act since 2009 but it hasn’t passed yet. Not to mention there’s been huge opposition from the National Association of Broadcasters.  There’s a great post over on Artist House Music explaining this in detail.  You can also read more from the bill’s biggest supporter the MusicFirst Coalition.  I’ll do a quick rundown on what I know and you can go check out these other...

A Break and The State of The Show...

Dec 2, 2012 by

Tweet Hello there fellow independent music lovers, long time listeners and first-time visitors.  I hope that Thanksgiving and the end of November meets you well and that your holiday shopping is nearly done.  If you’re like me still looking at a big goose egg in the column of presents bought, then a solemn nod to you as well. First off, we’re taking a break from now until mid-January and I want to tell you why.  I also want to tell you what our plans are for the future after nearly five years of providing you with an independent music show because if you so desire, you can be a part of the change. This break is for many reasons but primarily because I need to get my bum in gear and finish my dissertation for my...
