Annika Chambers: Making My Mark

Sep 16, 2013 by

Houston singer Annika Chambers hasn’t followed the typical music industry trajectory. Unless three military deployments (Iraq, Kosovo) and having Sergeant attached to your name is the typical trajectory.

Staying committed to her music dreams, Annika left the military to pursue her music career. Her soon-to-be-released (Jan 2014) debut album, Making My Mark, moves through R & B, soul, and blues.

Guiding Annika’s powerful vocal presence are two time Grammy winner Larry Fulcher and Montrose Records owner/engineer Richard Cagle. The album includes numerous Grammy winning musicians and performers. If that weren’t enough, Annika was recently named 2013 Best Female Vocals by The 2013 Houston Press Music Awards.

Here’s her 5.5 questions with The Justin Wayne Show.

Tell us about the first time you heard yourself on radio.

The first time I heard myself on the radio, I was in shock, like that can’t be me. It sounded really good though so I calmed down and just enjoyed the moment.

Annika, what’s been your coolest day ever?

Annika’s new album, Making my Mark, will be out January 2014!

The coolest day so far has been my CD preview party. I wasn’t allowed to see the crowd. When I finally came out; it was standing room only. People were in place waiting for me. One of the most surreal moments ever.

When you’re performing a song, where does it take you in your head?

I’m just trying to deliver the song as best as possible, so whatever the song is I channel the message and interpret it.

When you’re onstage, what’s different about you from the every day Annika Chambers?

Well people say that I’m a lot more reserved off stage and more shy (which I don’t agree). My opinion of myself is that on stage, I’m all about glitz and glam, but every day Annika is a no makeup, jeans, tee, and flip flops kind of girl.

What are your biggest challenges maintaining a music career?

Trying to keep everything flowing is always a challenge, but in the end its all worth it.

What’s on the ideal Annika Chambers sandwich and what would you wash it down with?

On my sandwich is honey oat bread, turkey, mustard, lettuce, pepper jack, and pickles. Yum…excuse me why I go make myself one.
